Day Trips
Walking
Kalkan and the surrounding area is steeped in history and culture. The Lycian Way for example passes through Kalkan and popular walks are signposted with yellow and black signs. Embarking upon local walks can be fascinating, but do ensure you have a good map or go with a local guide.
Boat Trips
Arguably the most popular way to spend the day is on a boat, sunbathing, relaxing, swimming in the lovely warm waters, and generally doing nothing except soak up the sun and quietness. We use a couple of boats for our lazy day at sea, each has sunbathing areas as well as shade. They will take you to 4 or 5 local bays where you can have a refreshing swim or snorkel. Lunch is provided which is made fresh in the tiny galley kitchen and typically consists of rice, chicken stir-fry, chips, salad, various vegetable meze dishes, followed by fruit. The boat can be hired privately just for your party, or you can share with others. Please ask for details.
Local Ruins (Patara)
If you are interested in ruins, then Patara is a great place to visit. In ancient times Patara was a major harbour and principal city. Amongst other things is the reconstructed parliament building and amphitheatre. It is thought that this was the first democratic parliament to be formed. Although what remains of the ruins at Patara are not as big as sites such as Xanthos (about 2 kms from Patara), Letoon or Tlos, once you have enjoyed them, you can wander down to the small village of Patara for a drink or meal, or go to the beach.
Saklikent Gorge
Saklikent Gorge, the third largest gorge in Europe, is another popular destination for a day trip. The gorge has ice cold water gushing through it into the river all year round. During peak season the water is low enough to cross, and you can walk the gorge which can be dry. Or if you prefer, hire a tube and let the current down you down the river. This is great fun and kids love it! There are places to eat and drink along the riverside, or just relax on the ottoman style floor seating and dangle your legs in the river. All in all Saklikent can be an energetic day or a chillout day. You choose. If you have a car it is fairly easy to find and is about a 30 minute drive away. Or we can arrange an organised tour for you either privately or shared.
This is just a selection of things available to you, but please ask for our full programme.
